General Hospitality FAQs

General

Q1. What is Naval Academy Hospitality?

Naval Academy Hospitality is part of the Naval Academy Business Services Division (NABSD) and oversees the dining, catering, and event venues across the U.S. Naval Academy. From casual meals to elegant weddings, every experience supports the Brigade of Midshipmen through the Dine with a Purpose initiative.

Q2. What does “Dine with a Purpose” mean?

When you dine, book an event, or host a celebration with us, a portion of proceeds directly supports the midshipmen who live, study, and train at the Naval Academy. It’s hospitality that gives back—one meal, one event, one moment at a time.

Q3. Are Naval Academy Hospitality restaurants open to the public?

Yes! Restaurants like The Alley, 1845 Coffee Gatehouse, and Drydock welcome the public, alumni, and visitors year-round. Some spaces, such as the Naval Academy Club, are reserved for members and their guests.

Q4. Where can I park when visiting?

Public parking is available at nearby garages and occasionally the Naval Academy Visitor Center. Event guests will receive parking details with their booking confirmation. Please ensure you have a REAL ID, Enhanced Driver’s License, or US Passport if entering on foot through Gate 1.

Dining

Q5. What are the best places to eat near the Naval Academy?

Within the Yard, visitors can enjoy The Alley for elevated dining, Drydock for classic comfort foods, and 1845 Coffee for quick breakfasts or lunch. Each offers local ingredients and historic ambiance right inside the Academy.

Q6. Do your restaurants offer vegetarian, vegan, or gluten-free options?

Yes. Our chefs are proud to offer inclusive menus with vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free dishes. Please let our team know of any dietary needs when you arrive or place your order. Note that we are not an allergy-free kitchen. While we take precautions to prevent cross-contamination, we cannot guarantee our dishes are free from allergens. If you have any food allergies or dietary restrictions, please inform our staff and we will do our best to accommodate your needs.

Events & Catering

Q7. How do I book an event or wedding at the Naval Academy?

Simply visit our Events & Catering page and submit an inquiry form. Our event specialists will contact you to discuss your vision, date availability, and venue options across the Yard.

Q8. What types of events can you host?

We host weddings, military ceremonies, alumni reunions, conferences, retirement celebrations, and corporate events. Our venues—from Dahlgren Hall to the Waterfront Reception of the Visitor Center—accommodate intimate gatherings and large-scale galas.

Q9. Can non-military guests or civilians book a venue?

Yes they can. Guests may be sponsored, and a sponsored event is any event in which a Club member is either reimbursed for an event or is sponsoring a nonmember or organization to use the facilities.

Q10. What catering services are available?

Our culinary team offers full-service catering—from plated dinners to buffets and cocktail receptions to Café Catering to go services. Menus can be customized to suit your event size, theme, and dietary needs.

Q11. How far in advance should I book my event?

We recommend booking at least 6–12 months in advance for weddings and 3–6 months for corporate or social events, as popular dates and venues (like Dahlgren Hall and the Naval Academy Club) fill quickly.

Q12. Can I tour the venues before booking?

Absolutely. Tours are available by appointment. Contact our events team to schedule a walkthrough of our historic spaces and discuss layout and design options.

Q13. Do you offer event spaces with waterfront views?

Yes. The Waterfront Reception Space of the Visitor Center, Ron Terwilliger ‘63 Center for Student Athletes, Hopper Hall, and Robert Crown Sailing Center offer stunning views of the Severn River—perfect for weddings, receptions, conferences, and photography.

Q15. What are the benefits of membership?
